These snippets of Bilaspur District Magistrate Awanish Kumar and Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh are reminiscent of iconic Bollywood pair Jay & Veeru from Blockbuster movie ‘Sholay’. The duo is captured on lens together in the state’s “Nyaydhaani” (legal capital) Bilaspur.
While Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra’s camaraderie as Jai and Veeru in cult film “Sholay” has been voted as the best example of reel friendships in Bollywood, the real time bonding between Awanish Kumar Sharan, a 2009-batch IAS officer and Rajnesh Singh, a 2012-batch IPS officer, is dubbed as one of the most successful bureaucratic relationships in Chhattisgarh whose love and understanding for each other have also made them great friends.
From joint meetings to seminars; from law and order review to public felicitations and what not, the close bonding between these two hotshot officers of Bilaspur has created a buzz in the whole district and social media.
But it remains to be seen whether their team efforts will create a similar effect among in law-abiding citizens of the Bilaspur district against the so called Gabbars of the district. With their exceptional bonding many hardened criminals have already given up their wrongdoings while many are running helter-skelter to save themselves.
Occasionally, on being asked, both Collector and SP have commented, Every “Jai” needs a “Veeru” and vice versa.
