Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district is witnessing a transformative shift in rural policing through the Chetna Abhiyan, a people-centric initiative driven by the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajnesh Singh and guided by Additional SP Archana Jha. The mission is rewriting the norms of public safety by weaving empowerment, inclusivity, and civic participation into law enforcement.

At the heart of this campaign is Semra village under the Ratanpur police station, where women have been trained and mobilised into a dedicated Mahila Commando Unit. Tasked with combating illegal liquor sales, narcotics, and petty crimes, these commandos operate under the mentorship of Inspector Naresh Chauhan and have swiftly become symbols of change.

“Chetna Abhiyan is more than enforcement—it is a trust-building exercise between police and public,” said SSP Rajnesh Singh, highlighting the participatory model. “We are witnessing real community ownership, where security is no longer outsourced but embedded.”

ASP Archana Jha added, “The face of the police is changing—women are in command and elders are guardians. This is the new era of collaborative policing, driven by dialogue and dignity.”

Chetna Abhiyan spans seven strategic themes, including road safety awareness, cybercrime workshops, anti-drug campaigns, senior citizen engagement, and youth mobilisation through culture and sports.

With pledge ceremonies, community dialogues, and a visible on-ground presence, the initiative has turned into a full-scale movement across villages. From schoolchildren to senior citizens, the campaign is fostering a renewed sense of social responsibility.

In Bilaspur, the police uniform is no longer just a symbol of authority—it’s becoming a language of trust, action, and shared guardianship.
